Original post by Marco Barbieri - Feb 16th 2014 on the Support Forum:
I buy this extension but I want to put one text input for each product, even if I choose multiples quantities. Below are explanations examples of my problem:
Normal Cart Example 1.:
Qty: 1
Product: example-1
ReqText: user-text-1
Normal Cart Example 2.:
Qty: 3
Product: example-1
ReqText: user-text-1(here is my problem!)
I need that in the case of Example 2 the user can define different ReqText entries for each of the three products.
The best way to meet my need would be to separate the products in the basket in case of multiple quantities. Do you have or could develop a solution for that?
That's a tricky idea you've got. Saddly enough I do not have a out-of-the-box solution for you but I have a few suggestions:
1. Could you add multiple input fields to one product - downside is you still have to find a way the product count is set to the number of input fields which contain text.
2. You could split your product into multiple identical products. But that could extend your database to huge proportions.
3. Maybe you can use child-products in a creative matter to present multiple of the same product. But I haven't worked with it.
If you want to add each product as seperate product I think you'll need a seperate plugin because it's not the most logical usage of a webshop (for most products). I'll see if we can add an option for solving this issue on our internal feature-list.

You can make this plugin for virtuemart to add each product as a separate product, I dont find anyone :(
If you want a plugin to do so there are a lot of things to consider. It involves a lot programming and testing in VirtueMart because the order has to be added to the database correctly; it has to display the order information correctly and a lot more checks are needed. This is because the added product has the same product_id in the cart but must be shown multiple times with seperate custom options.
Like I've mentioned before - we'll consider to put such a feature on our to-do list but we'll have to investigate the time-and-cost consumption in creating such plugin/feature.
So, I'm sorry but we cannot help you with such a function in a short time. :-(
Bug? That's not a bug, that's a feature. :-)
